Push and pull new standard for M12 connector

Push and pull new standard for M12 connector

Last year, eight manufacturers -- Phoenix, Harting, Molx, Murrelektronik, Binder, Conec, Escha and Weidmuller -- joined forces to establish a new standard for push-pull latches for M12 connectors to ensure compatibility between manufacturers. The new standard was approved by the International Electrotechnical Commission. The latest status of THE M12 specification IEC 61076-2-010 for push-pull fasteners will be published in December this year.

In fact, the market has been discussing new fast locking systems for many years, and there has been no consensus on standardization. The M12 connectors come in a variety of forms and can meet all requirements for data, signal and power transmission. The launch of the new M12 push-pull standard will make standardization possible.

The new M12 push-pull standard moves the latch circumference to the starting point of the M12 thread, so there is no thread interruption, and the notch design can be easily machined during the production of standard threads. At the same time, the rotational symmetry design can ensure that the push-pull mechanism of the device port can encode the M12 contact carrier without orientation. Therefore, equipment manufacturers can more easily, economically, and with greater freedom to achieve cable fastening design.
